Forgotten Android feature makes comeback on this Xiaomi phone

The Poco X8 Pro is positioned in the fiercely competitive lower mid-range segment. In addition to powerful hardware based on the MediaTek Dimensity 8500, Xiaomi's smartphone also offers a useful feature that is very much in line with current trends. More details on the Poco X8 Pro can be found in our comprehensive review.
The mid-range smartphone has an RGB status LED ring on the back that not only adds visual flair but can also be assigned functions.

The Xiaomi Poco X8 Pro's LED ring can be customized individually in the settings menus. Users of Xiaomi's smartphone can choose how bright the LEDs should shine and which colors they use. The lighting pattern and the situations in which the Xiaomi Poco X8 Pro should use the RGB rings can also be tailored to personal preferences.
The LEDs can serve as a notification light for calls, or specific events during a gaming session, making it possible to judge the type and possibly the urgency of messages without looking at the display.
The settings menu offers numerous options for assigning specific light animations to certain apps or contacts.
With this function, Poco is reviving a once widespread feature on Android smartphones and has recently been picked up again by other manufacturers, such as Vivo with its iQOO phones. The Glyph interface on Nothing phones is also reminiscent of it. However, the LEDs in the Poco X8 Pro's camera modules are much more subtle.
This gives the mid-range smartphone a distinctive visual touch without making it feel overly flashy, and the light rings blend in well with the overall design of the phone, an approach that we find convincing both visually and functionally.
