Panasonic unveils 144g lightweight full-frame lens for $399

The new Panasonic Lumix S 40 mm f/2.0 full-frame lens is said to be just as compact as the 18 - 40 mm f/4.5 - 6.3 kit zoom ($547 on Amazon), but Panasonic swaps the zoom for a much higher speed.
With a length of 40.9 millimetres and a weight of 144 grams, the lens is extremely compact, which means that smaller full-frame cameras such as the Lumix S9 should fit in a jacket pocket with this lens. The lens has a relatively simple design, whereby the housing is protected against water splashes and the function of the focus ring can be adjusted on compatible Lumix cameras. A dedicated function button can lock the focus or perform any programmable function, at least in conjunction with Lumix cameras.
Panasonic uses seven lenses in six groups, including three lenses with aspherical surfaces. The minimum focus distance is 0.3 meters for a maximum magnification of 0.17. A 62 millimeter thread allows the use of commercially available filters. The lens is offered exclusively for the L mount and is therefore not only compatible with Panasonic Lumix cameras, but also with Leica SL cameras and the Sigma BF.
