It appears that the onslaught of shortage-induced price bumps is far from over. Just over a week ago, we reported on Lenovo increasing the price of its AMD Ryzen Z2 Go-powered Legion Go S gaming handheld by an incredible $450.
Now, it seems that the Z1 Extreme-powered variant of the handheld has received a similar treatment.
Z1 Extreme-powered Legion Go S is now substantially more expensive
For those who have been out of the loop, the exact same variant of the Legion Go S with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and a 1 TB SSD was priced just under $900 on Best Buy not too long ago.
However, the same SKU with SteamOS now costs a rather painful $1,580 - an exorbitant ~$680 price bump.
Similarly, the Windows-powered variant of the Legion Go S (AMD Z1 Extreme) handheld now commands a price tag of just under $1,680. Moreover, Best Buy is also selling the Ryzen Z2 Go-equipped Legion Go S (with SteamOS) with half the RAM and storage for just under $990.
Comparatively, the 8-core AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme is over twice as fast as the 4-core Ryzen Z2 Go in synthetic multi-core benchmarks. In gaming, however, the difference between the Radeon 780M and Radeon 680M is much more modest - roughly 10% or so, depending on the title.
It is also worth keeping in mind that the higher-end variant also sports twice the RAM and storage. Since the RAM is not user-upgradeable, the higher-end variant is definitely more future-proof.
