Not every Android fan is willing to spend over €1,000 on a top-tier smartphone. We are taking a look at the gaming capabilities of Xiaomi's current mid-range lineup. Given the graphics performance on offer, budget-conscious gamers should definitely have Xiaomi’s €300 phone on their radar.

Budget Android smartphones priced between €300 and €400 have become quite attractive for many casual gamers, as even affordable MediaTek SoCs now feature very powerful GPU units. However, not every phone in this price bracket (the Poco X8 Pro currently starts at around €300) is a good choice for gamers.

This makes it all the more exciting to take a closer look at the gaming capabilities of the Poco X8 Pro and its Dimensity 8500 Ultra. Based on our review, the integrated Mali-G720 MP8 promises first-class performance for this price class.

Thanks to an additional core, the GPU records a slight performance increase over the previous version. Much more interesting, however, is a look at the mid-range competition, which is effectively demolished by the Xiaomi phone. Even Google's current flagship phone is beaten by the Poco X8 Pro in the GFXBench 4K test-and by a significant margin.

For those seeking a good gaming experience, graphics benchmark scores are not particularly important; instead, a high and stable frame rate in Android games at a high level of detail is key. To evaluate this, we tested three games from the Play Store.

Despite the price range, PUBG Mobile can be played at up to 120 fps on low settings in our test. HFR gaming beyond 60 fps is even possible at medium graphics (HD setting). Here, the Poco X8 Pro achieves an average frame rate of over 89 fps.

Furthermore, smooth gameplay at 60 fps is possible at the high detail level (UHD)—values typical of a current flagship phone. In truly demanding titles—we used Genshin Impact for this test—the Poco X8 Pro also performs very strongly. The Poco X8 Pro effortlessly reaches the full potential of this fantasy action RPG on Android (maximum 60 fps).

We measured an average of over 59 fps at maximum details. For comparison, a Pixel 10 Pro only reaches an average of 39 fps. The excellent impression of the Mali-G720 MP8 continues with the older Dead Trigger 2. The Poco phone reaches a peak of 120 fps and a remarkable average of 112 fps for an affordable mid-range phone.
