New Xiaomi gaming phone launches as affordable RedMagic 11 Pro rival
Xiaomi has officially launched the Redmi K90 Max, the company's first gaming phone with a built-in fan. It comes with flagship specs, and the pricing is quite competitive, especially when considering the launch price of rivals like the RedMagic 11 Pro.
There's a big emphasis on the built-in fan. Xiaomi touts that it's the best in the current smartphone industry, with oversized fins. The company says that the airflow path is specifically designed for cooling efficiency, allowing the processor inside to offer sustained performance under heavy loads like gaming.
On the note of the processor, the Redmi K90 Max is powered by the MediaTek 9500, which is paired with Xiaomi's D2 graphics chip. This combo, according to Xiaomi, allows the gaming phone to achieve 4,161,374 points in the AnTuTu v11 benchmark. For reference, the last top-ranking phone on AnTuTu's monthly ranking, the iQOO 15 Ultra, got an average score of 4,174,911.
The company further notes that there are multiple optimizations on a per-game basis to allow certain AAA games to run at around 165 FPS at the 1.5K resolution. Speaking of which, the 165Hz display is another major highlight of the phone. It's an AMOLED panel with 100% DCI-P3 coverage, 3,500 nits peak brightness rating, and Dolby Vision support.
This new phone also carries a headlining feature of the Redmi K90 Pro Max (12/256GB curr. $607.6 on TradingShenzhen), which is Sound by Bose audio optimization. Xiaomi says that this setup allows the dual-speaker configuration to offer rich bass and clear treble. The 8,550mAh battery with 100W fast charging support, a 50MP primary camera on the back, IP66/IP68/IP69 ratings, LPDDR5X RAM, and UFS 4.1 storage are the other notable highlights.
In China, the Redmi K90 Max has a starting price of CNY 3,499, about $513, which is for the configuration with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. To look back, the RedMagic 11 Pro had a starting launch price of CNY 4,999, around $733, for the same configuration.
