Deal | Steam is giving away a sci-fi gem (89% positive) – choices with real consequences

Players who enjoy choice-driven games may find a hidden gem in Sentience: The Android’s Tale. Rather than focusing on action, this sci-fi adventure puts the story front and center – and lets players shape it through the decisions they make. Developed by Pilgrim Adventures, the studio best known for Space Pilgrim, the game normally costs around $5 on Steam. Right now, however, it can be claimed for free. The offer only runs until April 23, so anyone interested should not wait too long.
Sentience: The Android’s Tale casts players as an android on the remote desert planet Akritas, where 24 colonists are struggling to survive. Every conversation and every decision shapes relationships, builds trust or destroys it completely. Using classic point-and-click exploration, players move through the base, complete tasks and gradually uncover the truth behind the mission. One question keeps resurfacing: do you remain an obedient servant, or choose your own path? With multiple endings and the ability to influence the fate of every character, Sentience offers considerable replay value.

Sentience has been received quite positively by players, but with only 215 reviews since its release in June 2017, it has still largely flown under the radar. Even so, 89% of those reviews are positive. Players praise its philosophical sci-fi story, the meaningful consequences of its choices, its well-written dialogue and its believable characters. The main criticism is the game’s very slow pace, made even more noticeable by the sluggish movement speed. Another drawback is the lack of Steam Deck support. At a 100% discount, however, those weaknesses may be easier to overlook.
