Deal | "More than just a Hades clone": Co-op roguelite cheaper than ever on Steam

In Ember Knights, players take on the role of legendary heroes fighting to save a universe on the brink of collapse. Comparisons to Hades are hard to avoid, but they are by no means unfavourable. Austrian news outlet Heute described the game as “more than just a Hades clone” and praised the way it establishes itself as a satisfying action roguelite despite its obvious influences.
In gameplay terms, Ember Knights does not try to reinvent the genre. Instead, it leans into the fast, reaction-based combat that defines many modern roguelites. Whether playing solo or in co-op with up to four players, you carve your way through waves of enemies, dodge incoming attacks, chain together combos and steadily grow stronger. Death sends you back to the beginning in classic roguelite fashion, but permanent upgrades carry over between runs. With seven weapons, 20 skills and more than 100 relics, the game offers plenty of room for different builds and synergies. All of this is presented in a bright, colourful pixel-art style that remains easy to read even when the action becomes hectic.

German gaming outlet DLH.net praised Ember Knights for its polished presentation, entertaining combat system and accessible learning curve. According to the editorial team, the game is relatively easy to pick up at first, but gradually demands more skill as it goes on. Criticism focused on some particularly punishing boss fights and the limited healing options available in solo play. In the end, the reviewers awarded it a solid 79 out of 100.
The response on Steam has been positive as well: 92% of more than 6,700 user reviews recommend the game. On Metacritic, the roguelite holds a User Score of 8.5, while a Metascore was not yet available at the time of writing.
First time at 60% off on Steam
Ember Knights was developed by Canadian studio Doom Turtle and released in July 2023 in collaboration with publisher Twin Sails Interactive. The game normally costs around $20 on Steam, but a 60% discount lowers the price to $7.99 until April 23. According to SteamDB, previous discounts had gone no further than 50%, most recently during the Spring Sale. That makes the current offer a new all-time low. Ember Knights is rated “Verified” for the Steam Deck.
