Steam Controller unboxing video raises hopes for Steam Machine release date update

Steam Controller leaks are surfacing almost on a daily basis. The latest hint comes in the form of an unboxing video Valve has just uploaded to its website. While it’s not viewable, the posting follows reports that the manufacturer imported a large quantity of controllers. Gamers are again wondering if news on the delayed Steam Machine release date is imminent.

Brad Lynch monitors events with Gabe Newell’s company and keeps followers updated on social media. He shared that SteamDB now shows a new entry called “steam_controller_unboxing_2026”. The listing appeared on April 20th, but the link says “This video has not been processed for streaming.”
With a history of accurate predictions, Lynch said, “I think we will see its launch very soon.” That statement was enough to excite buyers anticipating the Steam Controller, Steam Frame, and Steam Machine.
In recent weeks, Valve has seemed intent on completing all the prep work to debut the PC controller. Early in April, the same insider discovered code on the company’s website tied to the accessory. It referenced the setup and pairing process with the wireless puck receiver, which the unboxing video will likely include.
Not long after, Lynch leaked that Valve had accepted a shipment of a “Wireless PC Controller” from overseas. The devices may be companions for the Steam Machine or split gamepads for the Frame VR headset. Later, another fan unearthed import records for a “Game Console”, but it’s not clear if these are related to the SteamOS cube.
Could the Steam Controller appear first?
Valve suggested that it preferred to ship all three of its upcoming products simultaneously. If the controller is ready, it may have found a solution to the ongoing memory shortage. Originally, gamers expected a Steam Machine release date in early 2026. The launch window then shifted to a more general 2026 due to high storage and DRAM prices.
Since the Steam Controller doesn’t rely on the same expensive components, it’s also possible that it could arrive first. The accessory will be integral in enticing console loyalists to purchase the mini PC. At the same time, desktop and laptop users have been calling for a new device tailored for the marketplace.
