Steam Controller setup teased, as fans want release date before Steam Machine

Valve has gradually pushed back the Steam Machine release date, with a general “2026” as the latest estimate. The memory shortage has impacted the mini PC, but it shouldn’t delay an essential accessory. Fans waiting patiently for the Steam Controller recently learned more about its setup process.
On social media, Brad Lynch shared new code from Valve’s website related to the device. The “New User Experience strings” describe the first moments with the PC controller. After detecting the peripheral, players will be asked to connect the wireless puck to update the firmware on both.
Lynch discovered new pictures added to the backend, showing on-screen guidance. On SteamDB, gamers can see activity involving changed assets on April 3rd. Some followers hope Valve is about to announce the Steam Controller release date. Still, there is no confirmation that it will arrive prior to the Steam Machine.
Why hasn't Valve already released its controller?
The upcoming console challenger faces the obstacle of higher component prices. With the storage and memory shortage, the manufacturer is likely trying to avoid a price increase. The crisis may also curtail the Steam Frame VR headset, but the anticipated accessory should be an exception.
The only reason to postpone the Steam Controller is to preserve a coordinated launch. Bundled with the Steam Machine, it will entice console gamers who are hesitant about the system. One of its trademark features is a dual trackpad, which makes PC games more accessible in living rooms. Otherwise, it will introduce a layout more familiar to Xbox and PlayStation loyalists.
For gamers who still lament the discontinuation of Valve’s last PC controller, there are other advantages to look forward to. While Steam offers powerful input remapping for third-party devices, it’s designed specifically for the ecosystem. Finally, TMR thumbsticks are less prone to drifting and aim to enhance durability.
