Hardly any time has passed since Hori released the first new official Steam controller in years. While the Horipad carries 'for Steam' branding, it lacks built-in touchpads like the original Steam Controller or the much-loved Steam Deck. In other words, it operates much like other cheaper options, such as 8BitDo's Ultimate 2C (curr. $29.99 on Amazon).
However, there is increasing evidence that Valve is developing a second-generation Steam Controller. To recap, Bradley Lynch revealed that Valve was developing the so-called Steam Controller 2 under the code name 'Ibex'. Now, Lynch has shared what he claims is an Ibex render model, embedded below.
According to Lynch, the render model was recently found in SteamVR driver updates. Incidentally, the same is true of new Valve Deckard controllers, details of which we have covered separately. To that extent, Bradley believes that the Deckard headset may support the Ibex controller, too.
As for Ibex specifically, it seems that the controller builds on the Steam Deck's controller layout with a pair of joysticks placed between a d-pad and ABXY buttons. Moreover, the render model shows two touchpads that have been rotated inwards slightly. Based on this image, it appears that Ibex is much larger than contemporary wireless controllers. As a result, Lynch and some of his fans have started referring to the controller as the Steam Duke after the infamous Xbox Duke. Unfortunately, other details about Ibex remain unknown for now.
