The Steam Machine launch could be months away, but other new Valve hardware appears further along. An insider claims that the company imported a large shipment of wireless PC controllers. The devices may be the anticipated Steam Controller or accessories for the Frame VR headset.

The memory shortage prompted Valve to reconsider the launch timing of a trio of new hardware. However, there are positive signs for a vital companion of the Steam Machine or Frame VR headset. Brad Lynch, who leaked Valve news in the past, reports that the company received a large shipment of Steam controllers.

On social media, Lynch revealed, “Looks like Valve received their first large quantity imports of ‘Wireless PC Controller’ last week.” Presumably, the U.S.-based operation has the devices assembled overseas. It’s unclear if the accessories are the Steam Controller bundled with the mini PC or the peripherals designed for the Frame.

The claim seems related to a recently discovered image showing boxes stacked up in Valve’s offices. Adding to the speculation, the leaker detected curious activity on its official website. New lines of code referenced the controller and setup process. Images of the pairing routine involving the wireless puck receiver also emerged.

Why won't Valve ship the Steam Controller now?

Some fans are now wondering if a Steam Machine release date update is incoming. Indications are that the gaming giant wants to wait until the system is ready before opening pre-orders for the PC controller. That has annoyed buyers who have longed for the dual-trackpad option, catering to couch-based gameplay.

Originally, the mini PC was expected to launch in early 2026. Responding to the memory shortage, Valve later committed to a debut in the first half of the same year. The last Steam Machine release date news from the manufacturer came in an March blog update. Sadly, the target is now an even vaguer 2026.

The other possibility is that the shipment confirmed by Lynch is essential to the Steam Frame. While most of the focus has been on the Steam Controller, split gamepads will support the VR headset. Unlike with the Index, the peripherals have a more standard layout, suitable for both VR and non-VR games.
