Valve’s new headset has reportedly entered mass production and is set to launch this year, targeting up to 600,000 units annually. Industry sources confirm "Steam Frame" will focus on wireless PC VR and new controllers.

Valve’s upcoming VR headset has reportedly entered mass production, with new details surfacing thanks to a Chinese analyst group. The new info also corroborates past industry leaks.

According to the analyst group XR Research Institute, Valve’s next VR headset - unofficially known as "Deckard" and possibly destined for launch as "Steam Frame" - is already being produced at scale for a planned release in 2025 itself. Production runs are estimated between 400,000 and 600,000 units annually.

The data points make it clear that Valve is very serious about re-entering the VR hardware market at scale. The company has confirmed, via various public statements and developer code, that it is working on a new headset with a focus on wireless streaming from PC. Since at least 2021, references to "Deckard" have appeared in SteamVR code. In late 2024, new "Roy" controller models (resembling the Oculus Touch) were also found in clues within SteamVR. A trademark application for "Steam Frame" and newer code snippets now indicate this will likely be the official product name, replacing the Deckard codename.

With shipment expected this year, the device’s launch could noticeably impact the competitive landscape and reignite interest in high-end PC-connected VR. Previous rumors tell us about premium pricing, standalone streaming capability with PC tethering, and major hardware upgrades, but official confirmation of specs is still pending. Considering that the new leak specifies a 2025 launch, an official announcement should be just around the corner.
