"Nuts" Valve Steam Frame price of $1100+ leaks with imminent release date

There are hopes that the Steam Frame price won’t shock like the cost of the Steam Machine. Unfortunately, according to a Valve insider, the VR headset will demand hundreds more than predicted. Tyler McVicker has learned that it may start at well over $1,100. An August 3rd release date for the hardware is also a likely scenario.

Bad news for budgets

McVicker correctly leaked past Valve developments but doesn’t boast a perfect track record. Even so, his sources suggest that the gear will be considerably more expensive than he thought. During a now delisted podcast, McVicker warned that buyers should reserve at least $1,100 for the cheapest configuration.

A higher Steam Frame price is possible, but the YouTuber expects a number under $1,500. After its November 2025 reveal, the manufacturer said it was aiming for a lower cost than the $999 Index predecessor. Unfortunately, the storage and memory shortage impacted the new VR headset and the Steam Machine.

The YouTuber had anticipated a Steam Frame release date in the last week of July. Yet, he suspects that another recent announcement delayed the opening of reservations. Qualcomm confirmed a double-digit percentage hike on processors, including the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip used by the Frame. Even before this news, McVicker explained that its price was surprisingly high.

Despite uncertainty about the components, preparations to take orders are rumored to be complete. Backend changes for VR game testing and support materials, such as a Welcome Tour, leaked earlier.

Long wait times again?

The media may also already possess the units and necessary software to publish reviews. However, McVicker says Valve shipped only 8-10 systems, fewer than with the SteamOS mini PC. This could be due to limited availability or the company prioritizing enthusiasts over other channels.

Whether the Steam Frame is $1100 or $1400, the cost will disappoint buyers seeking a mainstream VR gaming solution. Still, if performance stands out more than the Steam Machine, it could convince skeptics.
