The first buyers have already received their Steam Machines, but the waiting list is long. Valve has now provided an update on the maximum wait time customers can expect for the console and, on this occasion, released a new version of Proton that adds FSR 4.1 support to the Steam Machine.

Valve has confirmed in a blog post that AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 4.1 is now available on the Steam Machine, provided that a game supports upscaling and is run using Proton Experimental. FSR 4.1 promises, above all, less noticeable motion blur, sharper rendering of vegetation, and a slight performance boost compared to FSR 4.0.

Valve has also released CAD files for the Steam Machine’s case, making it easier to create accessories using, for example, a 3D printer. In this latest blog post, Valve reaffirms that by the end of the year, every customer on the pre-order waiting list will have the opportunity to order the Steam Machine. However, according to Valve, there are separate reservation queues for each Steam Machine variant and each region, which is why customers who ordered the console later may be the first to receive the opportunity to purchase it.

Once all customers who have pre-ordered the Steam Machine in a given region have had a chance to purchase it, customers on the waitlist will move up to the pre-order queue. So far, some of these customers have received a direct link through which they could purchase the console. However, according to Valve, this was a mistake. Customers were actually supposed to receive an email informing them that they are now part of the reservation queue. Anyone who adds an email address to the waiting list now should not expect delivery until next year.
