Valve officially confirms Steam Controller price and release date

After months of suspense, leaks, rumours and speculations, the Steam Controller finally has an official release date. Previous leaks accurately predicted both, and its price understandably caused some discourse among the community. You can pre-order one starting May 4 at 10:00 PT from its official Steam Page. Availability seems to be limited to a handful of regions, as is the case with most first-party Valve hardware.
A Steam Controller will cost you $99.99 at launch, precisely what was hinted at by a previous review. Many argue it is a tad steep, but others argue it is justified because of its unique design and Steam-specific features. Besides, we also get TMR joysticks for drift-free usage. Even if something does go wrong, Valve products have historically been very DIY repair-friendly, with parts and manuals easily available online.
Unfortunately, the Steam Machine and Steam Frame still do not have release dates. With the Steam Controller finally out and about, their arrival seems all but imminent at this point. While the controller has been priced relatively fairly, one might not be able to say the same about the VR headset and mini-PC due to skyrocketing memory prices.
