Samsung releases first 6K gaming monitor with DisplayPort 2.1 and USB hub

In recent years, high-end gaming monitor manufacturers have gradually transitioned to using OLED panels instead of IPS equivalents. While Samsung Electronics utilises QD-OLED technology inside monitors like the Odyssey G81SF (curr. $949 on Amazon), it continues to embrace IPS technology inside expensive gaming monitors too.
For instance, the company has now started selling the Odyssey G8 (G80HS) in the Eurozone with a 6K IPS panel. Branded Fast IPS, the G80HS complements its 6,144 x 3,456-pixel resolution with a 165 Hz refresh rate by default. However, the monitor can double its refresh rate to 330 Hz via Dual Mode technology by lowering its resolution to 3K (3,072 x 1,728).
Currently, the G80HS is the only 6K gaming monitor sold anywhere. Although the monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync technologies, its 1 ms GtG response times are much slower than those found on QD-OLED or WOLED alternatives. Also, the G80HS peaks at 350 nits with no brightness improvement when HDR10 or HDR10+ is enabled.
Samsung's new 32-inch monitor lacks a USB Type-C port, too. As the image above shows, Samsung includes two USB 3.2 Type-A ports instead, as well as HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20) connections. Samsung has priced the Odyssey G8 (G80HS) at €1,499 (~$1,755) in the Eurozone. Currently, Samsung expects to begin shipping pre-orders around June 19.
