Thermalright has joined the AMD Strix Halo party with a high-end mini-PC. Sold with 128 GB RAM, the AI HydroNous R1 also features liquid cooling to keep its Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU running at higher wattages than competing Strix Halo devices can manage.

Hardly any time has passed since Thermalright teased the HydroNous R1. Nonetheless, the company has already released the mini-PC with AMD's most powerful Strix Halo processor. Unfortunately, international availability remains unknown for now.

In the meantime, Thermalright has started selling the AI HydroNous R1 with 2 TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage and 128 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 RAM, of which 96 GB should be assignable as VRAM to its Radeon 8060S iGPU. Unsurprisingly, this memory configuration makes the AI HydroNous R1 rather expensive. At launch, Thermalright has priced the mini-PC at CNY 23,990, which converts to just over $3,510 at current exchange rates.

While pricey, this configuration currently costs $3,299 inside the GMKtec EVO-X2 that we reviewed just over six months ago. A liquid cooling solution allows the AI HydroNous R1 to push the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 to 176 W though while holding performance at 153 W, both of which are beyond the capabilities of most Strix Halo machines.

Also, Thermalright includes a 4.6-inch and 960 x 320-pixel display that shows various system parameters at once. Moreover, the AI HydroNous R1 features a trio of M.2 2280 slots and a Wi-Fi 7 compatible modem, but soldered RAM within a housing that measures 235 x 83 x 133 mm. Thermalright has equipped its new mini-PC with the following ports, too:

  • 1x 3.5 mm jack
  • 1x HDMI
  • 1x DisplayPort
  • 1x RJ45 (10 Gbps)
  • 1x SD card reader
  • 2x USB 4
  • 2x USB Type-A (10 Gbps)
