Steam: New free-to-play life-sim tops charts with very promising reviews

Police Chief Simulator: Prologue – Early Days hit Steam yesterday (April 20). Players now have their first look at a management title that swaps out high-speed chases for paperwork and basic precinct logistics. The game is set in Winston Springs, and it puts you in charge of a department that has been effectively dismantled by local biker gangs. Your goal isn't just to catch criminals, but to rebuild the infrastructure required to keep them off the streets. It is a slow-burn experience that is more about the strategic side of law enforcement.
Most of your time in this prologue will be spent inside the precinct. When you arrive, the building is essentially a ruin. You have to physically clear out trash, set up desks, and get the power running before you can even hire your first officer. Once the station is functional, the gameplay moves towards reviewing evidence and dispatching units to various calls. The first-person perspective should make these administrative tasks feel tangible, as you have to walk to different offices to file reports or check on detainees.
Early numbers show a pretty solid start for a niche simulator. The game currently holds a "Very Positive" rating on Steam - 84% of players gave it a thumbs up in the first 24 hours alone. Going by the feedback, Police Chief Simulator has a satisfying progression loop, though some users do mention that the frame rate can dip when the station gets crowded with staff. The developers have already acknowledged these performance issues and pushed a small patch this morning (April 21) to address the most frequent stuttering complaints.
Running the game requires a decent amount of power for a management sim. The environments are quite detailed, so the physics-based renovation mechanics definitely take a toll on older hardware. You will need at least 15 GB of space and a relatively modern GPU to keep things moving. This first release looks to be a test for the full version of Police Chief Simulator, which is scheduled for a Q3 2026 launch. Perfect Circle Team S.A. is using this time to collect data on how players interact with the game mechanics. If the core loop (cleaning, hiring, and investigating) is something people enjoy, the full game could see another successful launch later this year.
