Deal | Steam Medieval Fest: Steam Deck-compatible narrative RPG with "Very Positive" reviews hits record-low price

Since its acquisition by Microsoft in 2018, Obsidian Entertainment has been the workhorse of the Xbox Game Studios, as it has released five titles to date. Among these five games, Pentiment stands out as a pure passion project from Josh Swayer, the director of Fallout: New Vegas.
Sadly, despite being critically acclaimed and boasting a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, Pentiment often flies under the radar of many people. It is an utterly gorgeous narrative-driven adventure title that takes place in 16th-century Bavaria, in a fictional city known as Tassing.
As part of the Steam Medieval Fest, Pentiment is now on sale on Steam for just $9.99. This is 50% less than the game’s full list price and is the lowest price ever according to SteamDB.
In Pentiment, you play as Andreas Maler, a broke painter who finds himself investigating a series of murders over the course of 25 years. Since Pentiment is a Role-Playing Game (RPG), the gameplay system ensures that the choices you make have an impact on the overall story.
On the subject of the story, Pentiment is a narrative-driven title with no action. The story and the unique illuminated manuscript-style art are the main highlights here. The excellent review by Mortismal Gaming, which is linked below, explains that Pentiment’s narrative is “very engrossing” and “incredibly well-written with a ton of choice and consequence”.
So, you should play Pentiment for its story, as this is essentially all the game promises. If you are someone who likes games full of action/combat, Pentiment might not be the game for you.
That said, Pentiment’s illuminated manuscript art style is unique and oozes charm. One look at it and you can tell that the developers have put a lot of effort, love, and care into it. So, if you don’t usually play narrative-driven games, Pentiment is well worth a shot for the art style alone.
Finally, Pentiment takes around 15 to 20 hours to complete and has plenty of accessibility options, including keyboard-only support.
Pentiment system requirements
As you might have guessed from the art style and the lack of any combat systems, Pentiment is an incredibly easy game to run by modern standards. It is also fully compatible with the Steam Deck. The official system requirements listed on Steam mention:
- An Intel Core i3-3225 CPU
- 4 GB of RAM
- GeForce GTX 650 Ti
- 12 GB of storage space
So, even if you have a modern multimedia laptop with only an iGPU, you will be able to play Pentiment without any issues.
