Redmi Note 17 Pro Max: New specs emerge for Xiaomi's next mid-range champion

The Redmi Note 15 series is barely a few months old globally. Announced as a quintet of smartphones, the series currently spans the Redmi Note 15 4G through to the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus (curr. $375 on Amazon). Recently, the company expanded its offering in India with the Redmi Note 15 5G Special Edition, too.
The series is fast approaching a year in China, though. As a result, various sources are now discovering new Redmi Note references in recent HyperOS code changes. Currently, these appear focused on the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max rather than the Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 Pro that are also rumoured.
Despite adopting a new naming scheme, Xiaomi is not rumoured to be making major generational changes to match. Instead, early indications suggest the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max has the same cameras as its predecessor. Specifically, Kacper Skrzypek mentions the Samsung ISOCELL S5KHP5, Omnivision OV08F10 and ISOCELL S5KKDS, which serve as 200 MP primary, 8 MP ultra-wide-angle and 32 MP front-facing cameras in the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus.
Additionally, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is said to leverage MediaTek's 'MT6881' chipset. A model number rather than a retail name, MT6881 is thought to represent the Dimensity 7500, with the Dimensity 7400 powering the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus. Recent model number leaks point to another summer Redmi Note refresh. This is only likely to apply in China though, with other markets receiving Redmi Note 17 models in late 2026 or early 2027 at the latest.
