CookieRun: OvenSmash adds Espresso Cookie, a new 2v2 mode, and rewards

CookieRun: OvenSmash launched just over a month ago, and Devsisters is already moving fast to address early feedback and bulk out the roster. The latest update lands Espresso Cookie as a new playable character, bringing a familiar face from the wider CookieRun universe into Platter City's arena.
The new mode shakes up the format
Wild Royale Team Battle introduces a 2v2 Duo format, which is a meaningful shift from the game's default 3v3 structure. Wild Royale has always been a last-cookie-standing fight. The 2v2 Duo variant keeps that pressure but puts a teammate next to you, which changes how you play it entirely. It gives players a middle ground between the intensity of 1v1 and the coordination demands of a full 3v3 team.
The addition was expected, as OvenSmash launched with a solid variety of modes, including Castle Crasher, Smash Fight, Jelly Race, and Gnome Battle, but early reviews highlighted the roster and mode count as the game's two most obvious gaps. Espresso Cookie and the new 2v2 format are a direct response to both.
Neo Seoul cosmetics and a guaranteed draw
The Neo Seoul Costume Series introduces a new visual theme that aligns with the Platter City urban fantasy setting, which serves as the foundation for OvenSmash. The update also adds a Lucky Draw event with guaranteed rewards, which removes the full randomness from at least one pull cycle.
The update arrives alongside a separate convenience patch that added Cookie List sorting, Coin Rush gameplay improvements, and new sound effects, suggesting Devsisters is keeping a tight release cadence post-launch.
Building momentum
OvenSmash had a complicated road to release. Development began in 2022 but stalled after the studio behind it, Press A, suffered significant financial losses due to the failure of another project, and the game was widely assumed to be cancelled before resurfacing in 2025. It launched globally on March 26, 2026, and passed one million downloads on the App Store within its first week.
The franchise itself has now surpassed 300 million cumulative players across all CookieRun titles, and Devsisters has signaled that OvenSmash is central to its 2026 expansion strategy alongside CookieRun: Kingdom Act 2, which is set to launch in May.
