The Switch 2 launched on June 5 and a few days in, users are experiencing some battery related issues. Fortunately, this is not a serious problem and Nintendo has already shared a fix for it. In some cases, the battery charge displayed on the handheld is not matching the actual battery left causing users to get to a low battery state but still be able to play for a long time after that.
Nintendo has acknowledged the issue and shared a fix for it. It involves a reset by simply going into the Recovery Mode. To do so:
- Ensure an adequately powerful AC adapter is being used
- Check to see if the handheld is running the latest firmware. If not, update it and then proceed
- Turn off the Switch 2
- While holding down the volume up and volume down buttons, press the power button once
- Keep holding down the volume buttons till you see the Recovery Mode menu
- Power off the handheld by holding down the power button
- Turn on the Switch 2
Nintendo says this should reset the battery level meter. GameSpot has reported that this solution works. There’s another method to try to fix this issue but it’s more time consuming and Nintendo says it is not an immediate fix.
- Ensure you are on the latest firmware
- Turn off all Auto-Sleep mode settings (switch them to ‘Never’)
- Plug in the AC adapter directly into the handheld
- Let the Switch 2 charge to 100%. This may take up to three hours depending on the battery level
- Once it reaches 100% or it’s been three hours, leave the handheld plugged in for another hour
- After the additional hour, disconnect the adapter and leave the Switch 2 on the Home menu till the battery is almost depleted
- Power off the handheld and set it aside for at least 30 minutes
- Repeat these steps several times and eventually the battery charge meter should fix itself
If neither of these methods work, the only other option is to start the online repair process.
