Sony to look after gamers with surprisingly affordable PS6 as PS5 Pro price gets questioned

Sony recently raised the price of the base PS5 and the PS5 Pro. With these latest price increases, the PS5 now starts at $599.99 for the Digital Edition and goes up to $899.99 for the PS5 Pro. Many saw the price bump coming, as the global consumer tech market is in shambles. Serial leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead is now advising gamers to stay away from the PS5 consoles at the current prices.
In his latest video, MLID claims that Sony is designing the PS6 from the ground up to be as cost-effective as possible. This means that when the PS6 launches in 2027 it will likely cost less than what many are expecting. MLID suggests that, based on everything the leaker has seen, the PS6 will cost less than the PS5 Pro.
The leaker also explains that PS6 Portable will be even cheaper than the base PS5 is now. The PS6 handheld console is reportedly going to beat the Xbox Series S in rasterization with a much bigger delta when it comes to raytracing. Add the rumored PS4 and PS5 backward compatibility to the mix, and the PS6 Portable will let you play any PS4, PS5, and PS6 game for less than $600.
Keeping all of this in mind, MLID thinks that budget-conscious gamers who might be eyeing up a PS5/PS5 Pro should wait for the PS6.
New PS5 Pro price is not ideal but it might be the best gamers can currently do
It is arguably true that the $899.99 price of the PS5 Pro is not good. The console launched at $699.99 and costing $200 more after only two years serves neither Sony nor the fans. Gamers will also have to contend with generally more expensive console games and paid online multiplayer. So, the true cost of owning the PS5 Pro is higher than $900.
That said, we recently reported that the DIY gaming PC market is in pretty bad shape as even pre-built PCs with mid-range components like the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB cost more than $1,000. So, in such a landscape, the PS5 Pro still looks good, even at the higher new price.
So, we don’t know how many gamers who want a gaming console/PC system right now will wait for the PS6.
