Sony launches PlayStation Playerbase, lets you become a Gran Turismo 7 character

PlayStation is giving one lucky gamer the chance to literally become a character in Gran Turismo 7. Sony has launched a new community program, dubbed The Playerbase, that allows die-hard fans to audition and have their faces and likenesses scanned to appear in its biggest PlayStation-exclusive titles. The first game to receive this treatment is Gran Turismo 7, with more rumored to follow, including God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Wolverine, and possibly Astro Bot.

In an official blog post, Isabelle Tomatis, Global Marketing VP at Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced:

“For over 30 years, we’ve continued to look for ways to celebrate our gaming community, which plays a vital role in PlayStation’s history and future. Today, we’re excited to offer an opportunity to bring some of our devoted PlayStation fans even closer to the PlayStation experience.”

She continued, “Over time, we look forward to expanding The Playerbase as additional PlayStation Studios participate, featuring fans in ways that fit each game’s own style and world. The Playerbase is our way of saying thank you to the players who make PlayStation what it is today. We can’t wait to meet the fans who will step into the world of PlayStation in a new way.”

PlayStation wants to thank its loyal fan base by giving one lucky user the chance to be added to Gran Turismo 7. Starting today, gamers 18 years and older with a PlayStation Network account in the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Africa, or Australia can apply via the PlayStation Playerbase website.

Interested gamers need to sign in with their PSN ID and answer a few questions: explain what PlayStation means to them, share their happiest memories of their favorite PlayStation games, and detail the number of hours they’ve poured into them.

PlayStation will review the applications and shortlist a small group of finalists, who will be interviewed via video call to determine if they are worthy of having their likeness added to Gran Turismo 7. From there, the lucky winner will be flown out to a visual arts studio in Los Angeles for a full 3D scanning session.

Giving fans a chance to appear in Gran Turismo 7

That lucky winner will appear in Gran Turismo 7 as a limited-time character portrait scattered throughout the game. The winner will also team up with artists and designers to create a custom fantasy logo and unique vehicle livery that will be permanently displayed in Gran Turismo 7’s Showcase menu. PlayStation will cover all expenses for the winner and a guest.

The winner will be selected and announced in the summer of 2026, with their in-game debut arriving in a later update.
