Bethesda has a bunch of new content lined up for Starfield enthusiasts
Bethesda has finally launched Starfield on the PlayStation 5 after two years of PC/console exclusivity. Existing players will also get a bunch of new content via the Free Lanes update and the paid Terran Armada DLC.

Starfield is all set to get what could very well be its last major update before Bethesda fully pivots to the next Elder Scrolls game. Dubbed as Free Lanes Update, the patch brings a bunch of new upgrades to Starfield, such as cruise mode, which allows you to manually travel between planets instead of relying on fast travel.

Essentially, it lets you spend more time in the ship that you meticulously crafted and interact with crew members more. If that seems too monotonous, cruise mode can sometimes get interrupted by random pirates and other points of interest.

Other improvements include a new tier of items above ‘Legendary’ called ‘Superior’ and ‘Exceptional’. A new resource called X-Tech can now be found across the universe, in battles and harvested from enemies. It is used to further customise your gear and reroll legendary effects.

Starfield Free Lanes also has something for the dozen-odd people who enjoy building outposts. A shared container lets you quickly transfer resources across outposts and even have a pet at each location.

Starborn abilities are now upgradable without entering New Game+. If you absolutely have to enter NG+, you can now carry over items from your previous playthrough. Bethesda has also added some new content via a new in-game location called Anchorpoint Station, which offers new vendors, quests, ship modules, and more.

Starfield finally gets new DLC and a PS5 launch

If that isn’t enough, Starfield will also get a new story DLC called Terran Armada. It is free for anyone who purchased the Premium Edition and $10 for those who want to upgrade—a much more palatable figure after Shattered Spaces’ sky-high $40 asking price.

Most importantly, PlayStation 5 players can now jump into Starfield on April 7, which also happens to be the same day PC/Xbox players get access to Free Lanes and Terran Armada. The base game retails for $49.99, and the Premium Edition will set you back by $69.99. For the extra $20, you get Shattered Space, Terran Armada, and a bunch of in-game goodies.
