Starfield sells over 140,000 copies on PS5 in one week, generating $7.7 million in revenue

Starfield was originally released back in September 2023 for PC and Xbox, and it quickly became one of the biggest launches for Bethesda. More than two years later, on April 7, the game finally made its way to PS5. However, its performance on Sony’s platform doesn’t seem as strong as many expected.
According to data shared by Alinea Analytics, Starfield has sold around 140,000 copies on PS5 within its first week. This has generated roughly $7.7 million in revenue. While these numbers are not bad, they fall short of what you would expect from a major RPG making its debut on a new platform after such a long wait.
The PS5 launch came alongside one of the game’s biggest updates so far, known as the Free Lanes update. This update allows players to manually fly between planets, something that was heavily requested by the community since launch.
Interestingly, the PS5 release and new update also gave a boost to the PC version on Steam. Around 55,000 additional copies were sold on the platform following the update, adding another $2.3 million in revenue. This pushed the total Steam revenue for the game past the $200 million mark. Before the PS5 version arrived, Starfield had already sold 3.7 million copies on Steam alone.
Starfield players on the PS5 and PS5 Pro have also been dealing with different performance issues. For some, the game is constantly crashing, while others claim they can’t load their saves anymore. While Bethesda has acknowledged the problems and confirmed that a hotfix is in the works, the situation may have already impacted the game’s sales.
