Oppo Reno16 Pro Review
With the Reno16 Pro, Oppo brings on‑device AI to the high‑end smartphone segment. Powered by the new Dimensity 8550, its AI features run locally on the device, no internet connection required. The Reno16 Pro also leverages AI HyperBoost 3.0 for gaming, delivering smoother performance without relying on the cloud. We took a closer look at this “digital second brain.”

Given the high price of the Reno16 Pro (starts at around $1,500 on Amazon.com), our review concludes that the Oppo device leaves something to be desired. Read our review to find out what prospective buyers of this compact Android phone need to know.

What’s exciting, however, is that, thanks to the new MediaTek chipset’s NPU, AI features such as AI Translate can now run locally even on a Reno-series smartphone. According to Oppo, this makes translations more accurate and ensures that the feature remains functional even in areas with no cellular coverage.

In photography, Oppo’s premium lineup also benefits from the Dimensity 8550 through features such as “AI Portrait Glow,” which allows users to adjust exposure during post-processing. On-device tools for editing moving image elements, including AI Motion Photo Eraser and AI Motion Photo Popout, are also being introduced exclusively for the Reno series.

For gamers, the combination of the Dimensity 8550 and AI HyperBoost 3.0 provides an AI-powered refresh rate that improves energy efficiency and frame-rate stability.

The Oppo smartphone as a financial assistant and AI model comparison tool

During our test period, we also took a look at the Reno16 Pro’s “digital second brain.” The “AI Mind Space” app can capture and automatically organize content. With the “Snap to Mind Space” feature, the new Snap Key button can be used to capture voice memos or text. The AI then automatically sorts and catalogs the content.

As a practical test, we tried entering our receipts into Mind Space. The app processed them immediately and generated a balance sheet and an overview of our monthly expenses. The Reno16 Pro can also create a list of ingredients and a shopping list from a screenshot of a dish or menu. It can even analyze a concert poster to help users find hotels or plan routes.

The AI Mind Pilot in Mind Space also offers AI model comparison. Mind Pilot analyzes the context and recommends which of ChatGPT, Google Gemini, or Perplexity AI is likely to provide the best answer. Users can also view responses from the various AI models side by side in the chat window. Those who use this feature frequently may find that it makes everyday life much more convenient.
