Garmin has now released 12 beta builds in its 23.xx development cycle.
Garmin has released a new update for many of its recent flagship smartwatches. The twelfth of its kind so far, the new update introduces several changes and improvements that were missing from older firmware.

Garmin has delivered a new update for its last-generation high-end smartwatches. For context, the company has just released a new stable update for the Fenix 7 series, full details of which we have covered separately.

By contrast, Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro development remains on Garmin's Beta Program for the time being. At the end of last month, it started offering Beta Version 23.27 to the Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro, as well as to the Enduro 3, Fenix E and Quatix 8 (curr. $949 on Amazon). In summary, that update introduced five overarching bug fixes, including one relating to improving display behaviour.

Now, Garmin has pivoted to Beta Version 23.28. In a forum post, the company claims to have already offered the new update to 100% of Beta Program participants with compatible smartwatches. If that is not the case, then you can request the update manually by selecting 'Check for Updates' after navigating through your smartwatch's main menu to Settings, System and Software Update.

Reportedly, Beta Version 23.28 brings another five bug fixes to the Fenix 8 and co. However, it is worth noting that one of these changes is a catch-all for multiple 'minor issues'. Additionally, music should play correctly again in Connect IQ apps like Amazon and Deezer after updating to Beta Version 23.28. The full list of changes between Beta Version 23.27 and Beta Version 23.28 are as follows:

  • Fixes an issue that could cause music to fail to play when using a Connect IQ app such as Amazon or Deezer.
  • Fixes an issue where enabling quiet start for an alarm could fail to take effect.
  • Fixes an issue where panning golf maps with touch doesn't work.
  • Fixes an issue with voice alerts still sounding in silent mode.
  • Fixes other minor issues.
