TCL Kids Watch K5 is colorful, rugged, and packed with safety features

TCL has announced a new smartwatch for kids that will be sold as the Kids Watch K5. The new smartwatch has 4G connectivity, multi-day battery life, and a mode to keep your child focused in school.

In terms of features, TCL says the Kids Watch K5 boasts 10-layer high-precision positioning to ensure that the watch is connected and that the child can be easily located. Using the parental app, guardians can create safe zones with alerts for when the child leaves the safe zone. They can also use the app to check location history, lock the watch if it gets lost, add friends, and chat and talk to them via the camera. TCL claims the watch complies with global security standard including GDPR, ISO 27701, and ISO 27001.

The TCL Kids Watch K5 has a school mode that silences notifications and disables certain features, save for SOS calls. There's also a feature that allows kids to easily add friends by simply shaking the next to that of their friend. TCL says this feature works across all models of its kids smartwatches, but requires a parent's approval to activate.

The TCL Kids Watch K5 has a 1.4-inch TFT display with a 240 x 240 resolution. There's a pre-applied screen protector and a case around the screen for protection. It also has an IP68 rating and a water ejection mode, so your kid can wear it in the rain or keep it on while washing their hands.

The watch is powered by Unisoc's W337E, a Cortex-A53 quad-core chip with a Mali T820 GPU and a 4G modem. It has 256MB of RAM and 256MB of on-board storage. TCL has placed a 2MP camera above the display for video calls. The smartwatch also has step tracking and built-in games.

According to the spec sheet, the RTOS-powered Kids Watch K5 comes in nano and eSIM versions. It also has Bluetooth 4.2, 2.4GHz WiFi, and a single microphone and speaker. Its 600mAh battery is advertised as lasting over 2 days on a charge and over 4 days in standby mode. The watch charges via pogo pins, but GSMArena has stated that TCL also offers a motorized charging cradle that turns the watch into a desk robot when charging. Surprisingly, no such detail was mentioned on the product page.

The TCL Kids Watch K5 is 14.35 mm thick and weighs approximately 50 g. It is available in Sky Blue, Dawn Pink, and Meteor Orange and made of soft and skin-friendly materials. However, guardians can purchase three additional strap-and-case sets in Aurora Green, Sunrise Yellow, and Space Purple.

The TCL Kids Watch K5 is priced at €100, but it is not specified if that includes the motorized charging cradle. Nevertheless, it is cheaper than the TCL Movetime MT48 (curr. available on Amazon.de for €143.70), although the MT48 has much better specs.
