Leak: OM System Pen-F is based on Olympus Pen E-P7, but will receive upgrades
OM System officially confirmed last week that the next camera in the Pen series will be officially unveiled on September 9. Now, 43rumors has managed to uncover some details about this next-generation mirrorless camera. According to the report, 90 percent of the design will be carried over from the older Olympus Pen E-P7.
The thumb wheel on the top, which controls exposure compensation, will apparently be replaced by a smaller wheel on the back. The camera is said to offer a dedicated monochrome mode but will do away with the filters found on the Pen E-P7. Probably the most significant difference between the Olympus Pen E-P7 and the new OM System Pen-F is that while the built-in flash has been removed, the new camera features a built-in electronic viewfinder.
The display can be flipped out as usual, handy for taking selfies or photos from particularly high or low angles. The body is reportedly weather-sealed, so when paired with a weather-sealed lens, the camera can be used even in the rain. The bad news is that the technology is expected to remain largely unchanged compared to the 2021 Olympus Pen E-P7.
However, it has not yet been confirmed whether OM System will use the same 20.3-megapixel Live MOS sensor in the Four Thirds format as in the older model. At least that sensor was image-stabilized. It’s likely that OM System will at least upgrade the somewhat outdated autofocus system and replace Wi-Fi 4 and Micro-USB with newer standards. After all, the camera is expected to remain similarly compact –the Pen E-P7 measures just 11.8 x 6.8 x 3.8 centimeters and weighs 337 grams.
