The Olympus Pen-F, released in 2016, appears to be getting a successor soon.
The Olympus Pen-F, first released in 1963, was reissued a decade ago as a digital Micro Four Thirds camera. This camera will soon have a successor, as OM System is unveiling this next-generation retro mirrorless camera for the first time in a teaser video.

These are exciting times for Micro Four Thirds photographers, because after Panasonic reissued three lenses, OM System is planning a brand-new camera that will be officially unveiled on September 9, 2026. In the teaser video embedded below, the manufacturer not only shows a few sample photos but also offers a glimpse of the design.

The shape is strongly reminiscent of the 2016 Olympus Pen-F, though the design is kept somewhat more minimalist, in the style of the original 1963 Pen-F half-frame camera. The dedicated exposure compensation dial on the top has been omitted, and the on/off switch appears to be positioned much more discreetly beneath the shutter release button. The top plate now features only a single dial for selecting PASM, Video, or Custom mode.

The dedicated button for starting a video recording remains, as well as the electronic viewfinder with diopter adjustment and the flip-out touchscreen. According to information from 43rumors, this new version of the Pen-F will be less expensive than the OM System OM-3 ($1,699 on Amazon), but no further details about its features are known at this time.

If this is indeed a model inspired by the Pen-F, or even positioned as its direct successor, the camera is likely to stand out primarily for its exceptionally compact dimensions. Compared to the 2016 Pen-F, OM System is expected to upgrade, among other things, the 20.3 MP Live-MOS sensor, the 2.36-million-dot LCD viewfinder, the autofocus, and the outdated video function, which was limited to 1,080p at 30 fps.
