Is the “Made in Germany” Android smartphone a good value or should you skip it?

In our review of the Gigaset GS6 Pro, the manufacturer’s top-of-the-line phone surprises with an interesting design. The Android phone features a glass back that gives it a premium feel while still offering an IP68-rated waterproof housing, a removable back cover, and a replaceable battery with wireless charging capability. Unlike flagship phones from other manufacturers, the Gigaset GS6 Pro is priced in the mid-range.
A key selling point is its German manufacturing. The GS6 Pro is manufactured in Bocholt. But how much of this Android smartphone is truly “Made in Germany”?
Anyone who thinks they’re holding a purely European product when buying a Gigaset phone is mistaken. In fact, not all components are produced by Gigaset itself; key components are sourced from various suppliers, including the OLED display, the MediaTek processor, and camera sensors from Samsung.
According to the manufacturer, development, production, final assembly, final inspections, quality control, and all service operations take place in Germany. In addition, data protection is said to be better than that offered by competitors from China, thanks to local update servers.
Compared with Samsung and Xiaomi rivals, performance is weak
At its price point, the overall package offered by the GS6 Pro could be attractive to users who value German manufacturing, a Google-free operating system option, and a certain level of durability (ease of repair, long-term security patches, etc.). In terms of performance, however, the Gigaset phone isn’t particularly well-positioned. The MediaTek Dimensity 7300 is a solid processor, but at a price of around $400 - $500, the SoC is slower than a Poco X8 Pro or Galaxy A57 (starts around $450 on amazon.com). During our test period, we encountered stuttering, lag, and noticeably longer load times. The latter is partly due to the slow UFS 2.2 storage.
Our biggest criticism of the Gigaset GS6 Pro, however, concerns another weakness that could be a real deal-breaker. Find out what it is in our review.
