Gigaset GS6 Pro Review
When it comes to sustainability, most users immediately think of the Fairphone. But there’s a hidden gem coming straight from Germany. The Gigaset GS6 Pro emphasizes local value creation in Europe, strong data protection, the option to run the Google‑free AphyOS, and a long‑lasting, replaceable battery. This Fairphone alternative even offers wireless charging and a glass back cover.

The Gigaset GS6 Pro serves a similar niche to the Dutch Fairphone, but is not manufactured in China, rather, it is produced in the Westmünsterland region. The German manufacturer’s affordable top-tier smartphone impresses in our review with a very exciting mix of features. A combination that is likely unique on the smartphone market.

The Gigaset GS6 Pro’s battery is quite easy to replace, yet the case is completely waterproof to IP68 standards. Additionally, the battery can be charged wirelessly, and the phone supports bypass charging.

In contrast to the Fairphone 6 (starting at §790 on amazon.com) which is only IP55-certified and made entirely of plastic on the outside, the Gigaset smartphone surprises in our review with a glass back cover.

The Gigaset GS6 Pro lags significantly behind the Fairphone 6 in terms of sustainability and recycling.

Where the Fairphone really shines compared to the Gigaset GS6 Pro is in the area of transparency. The Dutch company focuses on openly disclosing its supply chains and using recycled materials. On this point, the German manufacturer keeps its cards close to its chest.

A key shortcoming of the Gigaset GS6 Pro in this comparison is also evident when it comes to modularity. Many components of the Fairphone 6 are designed as individual modules. Users can order replacement displays, camera modules, or charging ports from the online store and replace them themselves.

In our review, you can also see the differences in performance and battery life between both phones. Our test results, such as those for display brightness and color calibration, are also available for free in our review,

Which approach ultimately wins out: maximizing value creation in Germany or transparency, is likely a matter of personal preference.
