Why the glass back of Gigaset’s top smartphone is something special
In our review, the German mide-range alternative to the Galaxy A57 (starts around $450 on amazon.com) didn’t always impress, but the Gigaset GS6 Pro earns points for its German manufacturing and its interesting feature set.
The glass back of the Gigaset smartphone is particularly noteworthy. While there are certainly plenty of other affordable Android phones with glass back covers, those covers are permanently glued in place. On the Gigaset GS6 Pro, the entire glass back panel can be removed without tools. Gigaset includes a small pick (an opening tool) in the box, making it very easy to open the back panel.
The best part about the glass back panel is that the phone still carries an IP68 rating. Despite the removable glass back panel, the GS6 Pro is dust- and water-resistant. However, there is a certain risk of breakage when prying open the back cover, as glass breaks more easily than plastic.
Affordable Android phone with a removable battery and bypass mode
Underneath, you’ll find the replaceable battery, although it is secured with screws. The Gigaset flagship model looks quite high-quality thanks to its glass construction, while nearly all other phones with removable batteries and removeable backs rely on plastic materials.
The 5,300 mAh battery, which is not glued in place, can be swapped out easily without requiring complex repairs. To improve long‑term power management, Gigaset implements a bypass mode. Thanks to its dual‑circuit design, the GS6 Pro can draw power directly from an external source during intensive use - such as gaming or in‑car navigation without draining the battery. This helps preserve battery health and slows down its degradation.
