Google Pixel 11 Pro XL's scratch-resistant coating disappoints in durability test

The Google Pixel 11 Pro XL ($1,299 on Amazon) is relatively durable on paper, as both the display and the back are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, the screen also features a scratch-resistant coating, which is said to make the display twice as scratch-resistant as the previous model. The frame is made of aluminum, and the body is IP68-certified, making it dustproof and waterproof.

In the video embedded below, YouTuber JerryRigEverything puts the flagship smartphone through a durability test. The result of the scratch test is disappointing, as the display still scratches when it comes into contact with objects rated 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, even though very fine scratches are slightly less visible. The highly polished surface of the metal frame can also be scratched relatively easily, while the buttons can be removed from the body, making it much easier to replace them.

At least the Google Pixel 11 Pro XL passes the bend test with ease. JerryRigEverything takes the smartphone apart, and there’s definitely some good news – the display and the back panel, including the charging coil, can be replaced in just a few minutes, since the smartphone can be opened from both the front and the back. Although the battery is secured with strong adhesive, it can be replaced, just like the HiLight LED and the cameras, without much difficulty if necessary in the event of a defect.
