Due to numerous issues, the Google Pixel 11 isn’t as good a choice for smartphone photographers as the Apple iPhone 17. While the base model of the Pixel 11 series delivers very good image quality in certain situations, the tiny sensors in the ultra-wide-angle and telephoto cameras are a compromise.

After the Google Pixel 11 Pro XL achieved an excellent score in the DxOMark camera review, the detailed DxOMark camera review of the Pixel 11 ($899 on Amazon) is now also available. With a score of 154 points, the result is significantly lower than that of the Pixel 11 Pro XL, placing the more affordable model only 28th on the leaderboard.

The Pixel 11 is thus tied with the Apple iPhone 15 Pro and just ahead of the Pixel 8 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, but trails the more affordable Apple iPhone 17 by three points. The Pixel 11 has received a significant camera upgrade in particular: the 48-megapixel f/1.7 main camera, which features a significantly larger 1/1.56-inch sensor instead of a 1/2-inch sensor. As usual, Google has included a 13 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera with a 1/3.1-inch sensor and a 10.8 MP f/2.2 telephoto camera with a 1/3.2-inch sensor.
 


Despite its small sensors, the camera system performs impressively in good lighting conditions – the Google Pixel 11 captures accurately exposed, detailed photos with a wide dynamic range, the portrait mode offers a convincing bokeh effect, the autofocus is fast and reliable, and the white balance also works precisely in sufficient light. However, the smartphone exhibits several issues, particularly in low light.

If a bright light source, such as the sun, is behind a subject, the autofocus cannot always detect it correctly. In low light, image noise is clearly visible, while fine details are lost due to noise reduction. Colors, and especially skin tones, are also rendered inaccurately in low light, while the ultra-wide-angle camera, in particular, captures images with comparatively little detail.
