Google left the Pixel 11 on an older patch level than the Pixel 6

Google released the September update for Pixel phones on Sept. 15, two weeks later than usual. The bulletin that came with it includes one note that matters more than the number of flaws it closes. Google says one of those flaws is under limited, targeted attack.

One flaw is already being used

The flaw is tracked as CVE-2026-58704 and affects the modem. It allows elevation of privilege, and Google rates it high. Google gives no further detail, and the bug report is not public. The September Pixel bulletin lists 110 entries in all, 46 of them critical. Another 9 allow remote code execution, in the modem, the bootloader and telephony among other components. Google published the general Android bulletin on Sept. 8.

Which devices get the update

The build is CP3A.260905.009 and ships as a global release to 21 devices, from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 10a, plus the Pixel Fold and the Pixel Tablet. It is also the stable release of Android 17 QPR1 with the matching Pixel Drop. After installing, the security patch level reads 2026-09-05. Google names that level as the point where everything in the bulletin is covered.

Why the Pixel 11 is not on the list

The Pixel 11 series went on sale in August and does not appear there. It has already taken two updates this month, on September 1 and September 10, neither with a changelog. Both updates have a September 1 security patch level, and by Google's own yardstick that falls short. Google has not said whether the attacked modem flaw reaches the newer phones, and it has not said when the series moves to Android 17 QPR1. This is not the first security argument around this generation. The last one was about a protection Google removed from the Tensor G6.

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are done

For the two phones from 2021, this quarterly update is the last big one. Google confirmed that when the first Android 17 QPR2 beta went out without them. Google promises five years of updates from the US Google Store launch. That was October 2021, so support ends in October 2026. At least one more security patch is still due. Anyone who still uses one of these phones should take this update and then start shopping. Six older models were left out of the monthly patch in August as well.

You will find the patch level in Settings, under System and software update. If the date shown is earlier than September 5, 2026, the patch is missing. On a Pixel 6 through a Pixel 10, checking for updates helps. On a Pixel 11 there is nothing to fetch right now.
