Google Pixel 11 Pro XL rivals cameras of iPhone 17 Pro and Vivo X300 Ultra in DxOMark analysis
The Google Pixel 11 Pro XL ($1,418 on Amazon) has received only three minor camera upgrades. The 42-megapixel f/2.2 selfie camera was carried over directly from the previous model. The 50 MP f/1.7 main camera gets a new sensor, but uses the same 1/1.3-inch format as before. The 48 MP f/2.8 periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.95-inch sensor and 5x optical zoom, as well as the 48 MP f/1.7 ultra-wide-angle camera with a 1/2.51-inch sensor, have each been equipped with new, slightly larger sensors.
These upgrades are paying off, as the Pixel 11 Pro XL scored 168 points in DxOMark’s in-depth camera analysis – five points more than the Pixel 10 Pro XL. This places the flagship at number 5 on the leaderboard. While Google can’t quite keep up with the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, the Vivo X300 Pro and Ultra, and the Oppo Find X9 Ultra, the smartphone achieves the same score as the Oppo Find X8 Ultra and the Apple iPhone 17 Pro. With 151 points, the selfie camera even outperforms all competitors except the Apple iPhone 17 Pro, which scores 154 points.
DxOMark particularly praises the wide dynamic range, vibrant colors, and natural skin tones when taking photos, while the improved telephoto camera can capture more detailed images. The ultra-wide-angle camera is the weakest of the three rear cameras, capturing photos with comparatively few details and excessive contrast.
However, especially when recording videos, issues with image stabilization, motion rendering, and low-light performance mean that the quality can’t quite keep up with the Apple iPhone 17 Pro. The selfie camera may outperform most competitors, but it isn’t without its issues – faces are over-sharpened, low light leads to a loss of detail, visible image noise, and color casts, and the depth of field isn’t always sufficient for group selfies. All in all, DxOMark describes the Pixel 11 Pro XL as a solid all-around performer.
