Xiaomi releases new entry-level 5G smartphone with brand-new ARM chip

Xiaomi has expanded its M series portfolio by launching the all-new Poco M8x 5G smartphone in India. The company’s new entry-level smartphone joins the Poco M8 (curr. at $252.50 on Amazon) and the Poco M8 Power in the brand’s roster, which were announced earlier this year. Interestingly, Xiaomi has packed Qualcomm’s newly announced Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 processor into the M8x. The new 4 nm ARM chip features two ARM Cortex-A78 efficiency cores with boost clock speeds up to 2.4 GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores at 2.0 GHz.
Speaking of design, the smartphone ships with a green faux-leather back with a gold-finished camera island and frame. As for lenses, you get a 50 MP main camera with 2x digital zoom and a 2 MP macro shooter just to fill the gap. Plus, upfront, there’s an 8 MP shooter for selfies and video chats. A large 7,900 mAh battery powers the entire unit and supports 45 W wired and 22.5 W reverse-wired charging.
The Poco M8x has a 6.9-inch LCD display with HD+ resolution, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a peak brightness of 825 nits. The panel gets Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, which is said to protect the device against accidental falls and scratches. Software-wise, it runs Android 16-based HyperOS 3 out of the box, and Xiaomi promises four Android OS upgrades (Android 17, 18, 19, and 20) and six years of security patches until 2032.
Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an infrared sensor, stereo speakers, a 3.5 mm audio jack, IP64 water and dust resistance, a 240 Hz touch sampling rate, a triple cooling system, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Available in cobalt blue, black, and leather green color options, the Poco M8x starts at ₹20,999 (~$220) for the base 4 GB + 128 GB variant, while the 6 GB + 128 GB model is priced at ₹22,999 (~$240). It will go on sale on August 27 via Flipkart in India.
