Xiaomi 17T Review
With the new Xiaomi 17T, Xiaomi introduces its Vision Care technology, featuring an eye‑friendly OLED display with four TÜV certifications. The more compact 17T Pro variant is specifically aimed at users who are sensitive to PWM and experience discomfort from flicker caused by brightness control. We examine how Xiaomi’s marketing claims compare with our review results.

The new Xiaomi 17T impresses in our review with a great overall package in mid-range segment. Prices start at around $700, available on Amazon.com. That’s due in no small part to its excellent OLED display. Our measurements using a spectrophotometer and Calman software show that the AMOLED panel is very precisely calibrated for color reproduction. Even the deviations in color tones and grayscale levels within the sRGB color space are barely visible to the naked eye.

When it comes to brightness, the 120-Hz screen also holds its own against top-tier competitors. In our review, we measured a peak brightness of over 3,500 cd/m² using an APL18 pattern. While low APL values reveal the maximum luminance of individual pixel clusters, the APL18 pattern depicts typical everyday scenes and shows how the panel performs with content under realistic conditions.

As part of the launch of the new T-series model, Xiaomi also unveiled its new eye-protection technology, Vision Care. A potentially response to the extensive customization options offered by Honor on its Magic8 phones.

The 6.59-inch display has received four eye-protection certifications from TÜV Rheinland. According to the manufacturer, a total of 35 specific indicators are integrated.

Xiaomi relies on high-frequency PWM and DC dimming for its mid-range phone

An important aspect of eye protection with OLED screens is reducing flicker. The combination of high-frequency PWM and DC dimming at up to 3,840 Hz significantly reduces the perception of flicker. Our measurements using an oscilloscope also confirm these values. For the Xiaomi 17T, we measured a frequency of approximately 3,846 Hz.

In addition, there is an Eye Comfort Mode that can be activated in the settings menu. According to Xiaomi, this mode uses various sensors including a 360° dual light sensor with 16,000 dimming levels to control the display in a way that’s easy on the eyes - based on room brightness, the time of day, and the human circadian rhythm. If you wish, you can also manually reduce blue light or enhance textures.

You can find all the information and measurement data from the Xiaomi 17T in our review.
