Motorola shows where you shouldn't skimp on a smartphone

Charging more than US$ 300 for a smartphone that stutters occasionally during everyday use, lacks an ultra-wide-angle lens and an eSIM, has a display with 720p resolution, and offers only three years of updates is... let’s just say “bold.” 

At the same time, it’s fair to say that Motorola probably had little choice with the Moto G47: If the price wasn’t to rise even further due to currently exorbitant memory costs, they likely had to cut some features that were still taken for granted just last year.

Price drop for the Moto phone

Fortunately, there are retailers who need to sell the phone.

And they’ve apparently realized that the smartphone isn’t selling nearly as well as the slightly older models, so they’ve slashed prices significantly: On amazon.com you can buy the phone for around US$ 200.

It’s not all bad

And there are certainly some good points in favor of the Motorola Moto G47, which by the way seems to be almost the same device as the Moto G Power (2026), but has a different camera system.

There’s the stylish case, which comes in a choice of three different Pantone colors: Impenetrable, a dark gray; Nautical Blue, a medium blue; or Fuchsia Red, a shade of pink. The body is solidly built and looks high-quality with a faux leather texture on the back.

You can’t expect high-end build quality, but it’s still decent.

The Moto G47 also features a 3.5mm headphone jack, and you can expand the storage via microSD. That said, the 128 GB of storage isn’t exactly small, and the 8 GB of RAM is sufficient for everyday use. 

There are a few drawbacks to swallow

The sluggish processor, however, is too slow even for budget mid-range phones. For under US$ 200, though, you can probably live with the fact that you’ll have to deal with occasional lag, even in menus.

It’s frustrating that only three years of updates are guaranteed, even though the EU mandates new security patches for much longer.
