Vivo X500 Pro Max promises gimbal-OIS, is said to handle shutter speeds of several seconds

Although it will likely be several more months before the successor to the Vivo X300 Ultra ($1,649 on Amazon) hits the market, Vivo confirmed the first details about the flagship smartphone’s cameras on Monday. Now, Vivo product manager Han Boxiao has revealed details on the Chinese social network Weibo about another camera upgrade: improved image stabilization.

According to the manager, the main camera features three-axis image stabilization, which offers twice the range of motion compared to the Vivo X300 Ultra. Specifically, Vivo states that this allows for exposure times up to seven f-stops longer without photos appearing blurry. While without image stabilization, even with very steady hands, the limit is around 1/24 of a second, this image stabilization should enable sharp photos with an exposure time of 4 seconds, all without a tripod, provided the subject isn’t moving.

Such effective image stabilization makes it possible to take photos in low light with a longer shutter speed and, consequently, a lower ISO setting on the sensor, resulting in a wider dynamic range and less image noise. The new image stabilization is also expected to offer advantages for video, such as more effectively compensating for movement while walking. As Vivo has already confirmed, the main camera can record 4K video at 240 fps, while a 50 MP Sony L910 sensor in the 1/1.28-inch format is expected to be used. Further details about the telephoto camera are set to be confirmed on Wednesday.
