Xiaomi has revealed an even more affordable variant of its Redmi 17 budget smartphone. Dubbed the Redmi 17C, the MediaTek Dimensity 6300-equipped 5G smartphone comes with up to 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage.

Just a few weeks ago, Xiaomi released the affordable Redmi 17 smartphone in China as well as the international market. Priced at roughly around $300, the budget smartphone packs the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 CPU, 4 GB of RAM, and 128 GB storage for the base variant.

Spotted by GSMArena, it appears that the popular smartphone brand has also launched the Redmi 17C 5G, which, at roughly $220 in certain markets, is even more affordable.

Unlike the Redmi 17, the Redmi 17C is powered by a Mediatek chipset. Specifically, the 6-nm Dimensity 6300 SoC powers the smartphone, paired with 4 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of rather slow UFS 2.2 storage.  Folks who desire more storage can utilize micro SD expansion (SanDisk 256GB UHS-I card curr. $60 on Amazon).

The 5G-equipped Dimensity 6300 SoC is obviously an entry-level chip, but it's significantly faster than the Helio G81 found in the 4G variant of the Redmi 17C. Most day-to-day tasks and lightweight workloads should not be a hassle on the system.

The Xiaomi Redmi 17C smartphone is available in three colorways, including purple, brown, and black.

The budget smartphone features a large 6.9-inch IPS LCD display with a peak 120 Hz refresh rate and resolution of 1600 by 720. Xiaomi claims the peak brightness of 660 nits and 83% coverage of the NTSC color gamut.

Unlike the Redmi 17, which features a hole-punch front camera, the 17C features a teardrop cutout for its 8 MP front shooter. At the rear, a single 50 MP primary shooter can be found. The Redmi 17C also features a smaller 6000 mAh battery compared to the 17's 7500 mAh.

Other notable features of the affordable Redmi smartphone include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, IP64 dust and water resistance, 33-watt fast charging, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and an 8.1 mm thin chassis.

As for pricing, the Xiaomi Redmi 17C 5G is already available for purchase in Singapore, priced at roughly SGD 280 or around $220. A global launch is definitely likely, but the exact time frame for the same is under wraps for now.
