Surprise global launch: Xiaomi Redmi 17 5G already available outside China

The Xiaomi Redmi 17 5G is heading to global markets. The smartphone is already listed on Xiaomi’s global website, powered by a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 SoC rather than a Unisoc SoC. While an official retail release has not yet been formally announced for Europe, the device has already surfaced in Germany, where an eBay seller is currently offering it for €300 with domestic shipping. This soft market entry is familiar territory for Xiaomi, whose products frequently trickle into retail channels well ahead of their official launch dates. For €300, buyers receive the variant with 4 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, though Xiaomi’s global site confirms additional configurations, topped by a 6 GB / 256 GB model.

At this price point, however, the Redmi 17 5G offers a rather mixed spec sheet. Its expansive 6.9-inch display tops out at a modest resolution of just 1,600 x 720 pixels. While it does support a 120 Hz refresh rate, the low pixel density on a screen this large leaves much to be desired. The camera setup is similarly entry-level, omitting a telephoto lens entirely in favor of a single 50 MP main sensor and an 8 MP front-facing camera. On the upside, the device is backed by a massive 7,500 mAh battery that also supports up to 22.5 W reverse charging to power external accessories.
