Xiaomi launches 5G phone with 3.5mm headphone jack for ~$162

Xiaomi has launched a new budget-friendly smartphone in China: the Redmi 17 5G. The device comes with a 6.9-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 1,600 x 720 pixels. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate.

The device is powered by the Unisoc T8300, which is a 6nm chipset featuring two large ARM Cortex-A78 cores and six small ARM Cortex-A55 cores. The chipset uses a dual-core ARM Mali-G57 GPU. The device comes with up to 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Additionally, it supports storage expansion via a microSD card (128GB Sandisk microSD card curr. $34.99 on Amazon).

The Redmi 17 5G packs a 6300mAh battery and supports 15W wired charging via a USB Type-C port. It also offers 7.5W wired reverse charging. The smartphone comes with a 13MP main camera and an 8MP front camera. In terms of connectivity, the Redmi 17 5G supports dual-SIM 5G, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.4. It ships with HyperOS 3 based on Android. Notably, the smartphone also features a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Redmi 17 5G measures 8.15mm thick and weighs 210g. It is offered in white, black, and blue finishes. The 4GB/128GB and 6GB/128GB configurations are listed at CNY 1,099 (~$162) and CNY 1,299 (~$192), respectively. Moreover, Xiaomi is currently offering a CNY 100 discount on both configurations, reducing their prices to CNY 999 (~$148) and CNY 1,199 (~$177).
