Affordable Xiaomi projector launches with ToF sensor and 120-inch screen support

Alongside the Pro model, Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Projector 5, an affordable option that isn't as bright as its upper-end model but comes packed with features. Specifically, it has a 400-lumen CVIA brightness rating, and for those wondering, CVIA and ANSI are considered to be roughly equivalent.

That means the projected pictures will have about the same brightness as the Nebula Mars 3 Air (curr. $419.99 on Amazon). This brightness rating also makes the affordable projector good for dim environments. Xiaomi notes that the projector has a 1080p physical resolution, so the projected pictures should be detailed.

Another notable highlight of the Redmi Projector 5 is its ability to offer up to a 120-inch projected screen. The projected ratio is described as 1.2:1, and the integrated 360° gimbal should make it easy to get a proper projector setup with this unit.

Speaking of which, the projector comes with a built-in ToF laser sensing module. It allows automatic image adjustments. There's the MT9 SoC under the hood, which is paired with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and per Xiaomi, this combo should be enough for regular entertainment needs.

The port setup of the projector isn't fancy, but the Redmi Projector 5 has one USB Type-A, one 3.5mm audio, and one HDMI port. There's dual-band WiFi support, and Xiaomi notes that the compact form factor allows the device to fit easily in living spaces.

In China, the Redmi Projector 5 has launched with a price tag of CNY 999, about $148. There's no word on the global release yet, but it's worth noting that Xiaomi doesn't usually roll out Redmi projectors on a wide scale in the international market.
