Sharp’s latest mid-range smartphone is a curiosity in the smartphone market, not only because Sharp offers features such as a microSD slot and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, but also because the smartphone includes a panic mode.

The Sharp Aquos Wish 5 was officially unveiled last June, and now this affordable mid-range smartphone is getting a successor. The Aquos Wish 6 features a slightly updated design with slightly thinner screen bezels, and the single camera is housed in an oval camera module.

As with its predecessor, Sharp has equipped the device with a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 featuring two Cortex-A76 performance cores and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. It also comes with just 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash storage, though the storage can at least be expanded via a microSD card. The 6.6-inch LCD offers a resolution of just 1,612 x 720 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and the brightness has been doubled to 1,000 nits. The smartphone features a 50.1 MP f/1.8 main camera and an 8 MP f/2.0 selfie camera.

The battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. This mid-range smartphone features a fingerprint sensor, a nano-SIM and an eSIM, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and an IP68-certified, waterproof housing. One special feature is Panic Mode – when the smartphone is shaken, a loud warning signal sounds while the current location is transmitted to the pre-registered emergency contacts. Artificial intelligence is designed to detect fraudulent calls. Sharp ships the smartphone with Android 16 and promises at least two major Android updates and four years of security patches.

Pricing and availability

The Sharp Aquos Wish 6 will launch in Japan in mid-September, but Sharp has not yet confirmed any details regarding pricing or availability in the rest of the world.
