After seven years, the Vivo S1 is getting a successor. With an unusual design, a 7,050 mAh battery, and a 3,000-nit AMOLED display, the Vivo S2 aims to set itself apart from the competition’s mid-range smartphones.

The Vivo S2 defies the current trend toward flat displays, bezels, and backs, as Vivo rounds both the display and the back toward the left and right sides, resulting in an exceptionally thin bezel. The housing is IP69-certified and therefore waterproof.

The pill-shaped camera module is somewhat reminiscent of the Apple iPhone Air ($769 on Amazon) and houses a 50-megapixel main camera and a useless 2-megapixel sensor. The 32-megapixel selfie camera is located in a centrally positioned punch-hole. The rounded 6.83-inch display is based on an AMOLED panel that offers a resolution of 2,800 x 1,260 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a peak HDR brightness of 3,000 nits. The fingerprint sensor is invisibly integrated into the display.

The battery is one of the highlights of the device, as it has a capacity of 7,050 mAh and can be charged via USB-C at up to 44 watts. This mid-range smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7360-Turbo, featuring four ARM Cortex-A78 performance cores and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. Vivo includes a dual-SIM slot and a GPS module, but does not include an NFC chip for contactless payments.

Pricing and availability

The Vivo S2 will first be launched in India. The base model with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash storage costs ₹39,999 INR ($419), while the top-of-the-line 256 GB model is priced at ₹44,999 INR ($472). Vivo has not yet confirmed details regarding pricing and availability in the rest of the world.
