Leaker claims Sony PS6 will benefit massively from next-gen AMD RDNA 5

It is not a secret that the next-gen Sony PlayStation 6 will be much more powerful than the PlayStation 5. What is a secret, however, is how much bigger the performance gap between the PS6 and the PS5 will be. Moore’s Law Is Dead has now revealed some interesting information about the performance of the AMD RDNA 5 GPU architecture that reportedly powers the PS6.
Talking to Xbox insider Jez Corden on the Broken Silicon podcast, MLID references an internal AMD document that allegedly details the simulated performance potential of different PS6 spec configurations. One hardware configuration where the PS6 had only 25% more bandwidth and 33% more Compute Units than the PS5 saw the PS6 enjoying over 2x the performance of the PS5.
MLID claims these figures are from a two-year-old document and are based on AMD’s internal performance simulation/projection. So, the real-world result when the PS6 launches, sometime in 2027 or 2028, could be much different.
That said, this is in line with what we’ve heard from MLID in the past. For instance, MLID leaked back in September 2025 that the PS6 will have 52-55 RDNA 5 Compute Units, up to 10 Zen 6 CPU cores, and 640 GB/s of memory bandwidth. This configuration reportedly results in the PS6 boasting 2.5x to 3x the rasterization performance and 6x to 12x the ray tracing performance of the PS5.
For reference, the standard, non-Pro PlayStation 5 has 36 RDNA 2 CUs, 8x Zen 2 cores, and a memory bandwidth of 448 GB/s. The PS5 Pro ups the CU count to 60 and the memory bandwidth to 576 GB/s while retaining the 8x Zen 2 cores, albeit with a higher clock speed.
So, putting it all together, the Sony PS6 will be an enormous jump over the PS5, if MLID’s leak is accurate. We wish this performance gain coincides with relatively affordable pricing, whether outright or through a hardware subscription model. On the topic of wishing, we also wish the PS6 has backward compatibility like Microsoft is working to achieve with the Xbox Project Helix.
