GMKtec's new affordable mini PCs launch with AMD Zen 3 APUs and plenty of connectivity

GMKtec has added the NucBox M5 Ultra to its range of mini PCs. The device runs on AMD’s Ryzen 7 7730U, an eight-core, 16-thread Zen 3 processor with a boost clock up to 4.5 GHz. The chip includes integrated Radeon graphics with a maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz. The GMKtec M5S is a cheaper variant which uses a Ryzen 3 5400U, another entry-level Zen 3 APU.

Both the NucBox M5 Ultra and NucBox M5X support upgradeable memory and storage and include two DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM slots for up to 64 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and two M.2 2280 SSD slots. GMKtec claims each slot can support up to 8 TB, for a maximum of 16 TB of internal storage. However, GMKtec can only supply up to 32 GB RAM and 1 TB storage with the NucBox M5 Ultra. Alternatively, you can buy a barebones system configuration without memory/storage if you want to use your own components.

Connectivity features include dual 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2. The NucBox M5 Ultra and M5S can drive up to three displays via HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB Type-C, with support for resolutions up to 8K. Other I/O includes two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, and one USB-C port with 10 Gbps throughput and 100 Watt PD output. The device uses a dual-fan cooling system and is powered via USB-C at 19 V / 3.42 A.

The barebones configurations of the GMKtec NucBox M5S can be bought on the company’s storefront for $270, while the NucBox M5 Ultra costs $300.
